COMETS REVEAL ICONIC JERSEYS TO RETURN FOR 2016-2017

KANSAS CITY (Oct. 25, 2016) — As part of the Kansas City Comets’ re-branding efforts, the team will be wearing the famous ‘Rainbow Stripe’ jerseys this season and use a retro-inspired logo. In 2010 the team was introduced to the community as the Missouri Comets, to reflect the Independence and Eastern Jackson county home of the team. Six years, two division titles and a 2014 MISL Championship later, the Kansas City name and retro jerseys embrace the growing fan base that stretches across the entire metro area.

Comets VP of Business Operations, Scott Levinson said “When we decided to bring back the Kansas City name, we knew right away that we had to return to this iconic look as well. The ‘Rainbow Stripe’ jerseys bring back fond memories of those great Comets teams many of us grew up watching. Now we’re excited to introduce this look to the next generation of Comets fans.”

The jerseys are inspired by the ones the team wore when they first came to Kansas City in 1981 and continued to wear variations of through the 1986 season. The team will wear primarily blue jerseys at home and white on the road. Each set of long-sleeve jersey will feature the logo of the team’s title sponsor, Domino’s on the front. The white jerseys will also feature the North Kansas City Hospital logo on the backs.

Jamie Paulsen, President/CEO of Domino’s said, “”We are extremely thrilled to be the official title sponsor of the Kansas City Comets.  In our opinion it is the best family friendly sporting event to attend throughout the winter months.  We love the exposure to the soccer families who hustle every day to make practices and games and hope we can be a part of helping them get some hot, fresh food as part of their weekly routine.  The Comets have the most exciting game in town and we hope to make it even more exciting by offering every fan with a game ticket the chance to win a free pizza when the Comets score during the ‘Domino’s Miracle Minute’.”

The team will debut the new kits at their Home Opener at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Comets host the Cedar Rapids Rampage in the first of 10 home games that run through the end of February.
