COMETS READY FOR TWO-GAME WEEKEND

KANSAS CITY (Dec 28. 2016) – The Comets have their first back-to-back weekend of games as they close out 2016. Friday night at 7:35 p.m. CT, the team plays at home against the Florida Tropics in the second of three matches against the expansion side this season.

Comets vs St Louis Ambush Game Notes

These two teams played each other on December 17th in Lakeland, FL. The Comets jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Tropics battled back behind goals from Ricardo Diegues (2), Victor Rojas and Victor Parreiras to get within a goal (5-4) late in the 4th quarter. Kansas City was able to fight off the comeback and come away with a 6-4 victory.

The Tropics are led by Diegues (10pts) and team captain, Freddy Moojen (8pts). The team is also expected to return veteran midfielder, Robbie Aristodemo, to the field on Friday night. Aristodemo last played for the Baltimore Blast in 2011, but he brings valuable experience to a very young squad.

The Comets travel down I-70 to face the St. Louis Ambush on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. CT. This is the second match this season between these two cross-state rivals. Kansas City dispatched the Ambush at home in November. In that game, goalkeeper Stephen Paterson scored the opening goal of the match and the Comets never looked back. Eight different players scored in that game on the way to an 8-3 victory.

The Ambush got their first win of the season against the Tropics on December 9th and have a 1-7 record on the season. St. Louis’ roster features veterans Stefan St. Louis, Corey Adamson and Kory Dowell, but is mostly comprised of young talent who are getting accustomed to the indoor game.

Kansas City continues to be led by forward Leo Gibson. After a slow start to the season, Gibson currently ranks 2nd in the league for assists (13) and 4th in points (22). Defensively, Stefan Stokic ranks in the MASL’s Top 10 for blocks while John Sosa directs the back line with 3 goals, 10 assists and 8 blocks.

The Comets have always featured strong goalkeeping and that has not changed with Stephen Paterson in his first year as the #1 keeper. He currently has a 3.91 Goals Against Average, .754 Save Percentage and a Shut Out. Of course, he is also the only keeper in the league to score a goal with his feet this year as well.

Tickets for Friday’s match at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena are available at ticketmaster.com, KCComets.com or by calling 855.452.4625. The Comets are encouraging fans to gather at Coach’s Bar & Grille on 103rd & Wornall to watch Saturday’s match. Both games will be streamed live on the MASL’s new YouTube channel, MASLtv.
