KANSAS CITY (Jan 26. 2017) – The Kansas City Comets head south for a Friday night matchup against the Florida Tropics. The two teams have only two previous meetings, with each team claiming a road victory.

Kansas City Comets vs Florida Tropics Game Notes

The Comets are currently on a five-game winning streak, with the last three wins being secured in the final 90 seconds of each game. Forward Leo Gibson leads the team with 10 goals and 5 assists in that span, but he will be a spectator on Friday. Gibson is suspended one game for penalty accumulations through the season.

Several other players have stepped up over the last couple of weeks and will hope to fill in the hole left by Gibson’s absence. Defender Alain Matingou has four goals in the last two games, including the game winner against San Diego a couple weeks ago. Captain Vahid Assadpour had three goals and three assists last weekend as he ramps up for the MASL playoffs.

Florida will also be missing a key component due to suspension on Friday as goalkeeper Piotr Sliwa will be also sitting out due to card accumulation. To replace him in the net, the Tropics signed veteran Marcel Feenstra.

The Tropics are led by Freddy Moojen (10 goals, 9 assists) and Ricardo Diegues (10 goals, 3 assists). They are currently on a 3 game winning streak of their own as they try to climb into the playoff race. They are currently half a game out of playoff positioning and two games back of Eastern Division leaders, the Baltimore Blast.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. CT. The game can be seen on MASLtv, the streaming home of the MASL. Fans are also encouraged to join the Official Watch Party at Coach’s Bar & Grill on 103rd & Wornall.
